Redesign TRU RED desk accessories from Staples brand

As one of the first TRU RED transitions, we were challenged with transforming a cluttered category with outdated products into productive collections for the modern workforce. The result came to 2 plastic collections geared towards independent purchases and system purchases, and one large cohesive mesh collection.

Human-Centered Workshop

We identified 10 workspaces and 5 personas to review with product and merchandising partners. We then created mind maps to understand the behaviors and environments of each persona to identify their organizing needs.

Prototyping

We worked with factories overseas to develop the new organizers through review of digital 3D models and physical 3D prints.

Core Plastics

This collection was immensely curated to make room for customizable plastics and remove/update outdated skus (i.e. with floppy disc compartments).

Customizable Plastics

This step-up group uses key measurements to stack and nest products to attribute the ever-changing workplace. Custom organization, rotating trend colors, matte finishes and durable materials define this collection.

Mesh

With over 70 skus planned for production and constrained metal fabrication techniques, we needed to develop a concise design guide to highlight feature consistencies across diverse products for overseas vendors.
